I went to Galveston to help clean up because I wanted to be able to do something to help the people who had damage from Ike. I have friends who live year round in Galveston and had seen their pictures of the damage, but I had no idea how bad it still is down there.  Now that I’ve seen it, I know how much work still needs to be done to get Galveston back up on its feet. I would definitely go again (as long as it isn’t freezing out side!!) and hope we do so.  My friends kept thanking me for us coming down to help out because they feel like the whole island has been forgotten. It meant a lot to get to help out and also to see my friends. Trivia Pursuit was fun too!

Galveston found me doing hurricane Ike relief work as it was a timely
opportunity to correct my perspective on everything through blessing
others who are less fortunate. The feeling inside of me after doing any
kind of service or volunteer work for a worthy cause always pays
spiritual dividends that exceedingly make up for any time and energy
spent. The verse on my heart during this trip was Proverbs 11:25 "The
generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be
refreshed." (NLT) Although tired at the end of the day, I felt a deep
peace that can only resonate from the living God as I humbly practice
loving my neighbor as myself.
